Arizona State University

Arizona State University (ASU) in Tempe has the nation’s largest enrollment on a single campus totaling close to 60,000 students. Three other campuses are located within Mesa and Phoenix. Roughly 27 percent of the student body is graduate students; the majority of the student body is undergrad. Across all campuses, ASU has eight libraries.

ASU was established in 1885 as a teacher’s college. Today, ASU boasts 22 colleges and schools, including Barrett, the Honors College, the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, and the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law.

ASU has 175 National Hispanic Scholars and 532 National Merit Scholars enrolled, making ASU a top choice for national scholars. Go Sun Devils!

The heart of Northern Arizona University is in Flagstaff with nearly 15,000 undergrads enrolled. Another 6,000 students are enrolled in NAU’s 38 and growing distance learning campuses throughout the state. The one and only Cline Library is the keystone of the main campus

NAU opened its doors in 1899 under the name Northern Arizona Normal School, with 23 students and one professor. Two copies of Webster's International Dictionary bound in sheepskin were the first books in the single building now known as Old Main. After a couple of name changes, Northern Arizona University stuck in 1966.

NAU has eight colleges and schools—ranging from the School of Forestry to the College of Health and Human Services. NAU has been a pioneer in distance education for 30 years and the number of programs offered through distance learning has more than doubled since 2000. Students can now choose from more than 120 undergraduate, graduate, certificate, and endorsement programs. Go Lumberjacks!

The University of Arizona (UA) is based in Tucson; UA South is located in Sierra Vista. With an enrollment of nearly 40,000, UA has nearly 8,000 graduate students. Six libraries serve the various schools.

Founded in 1891 as the state's first university and land grant college, UA is one of the nation's charter Research I institutions. The latest numbers show UA’s research gifts and grants are upwards of $362 million. The first two colleges, Agriculture and Mines, held classes in the University of Arizona’s only building—Old Main—which is still in use today.

Now UA offers 347 degrees in its 20 colleges and 12 schools. Medicine is a specialty of UA with colleges including nursing, optical sciences, pharmacy, and public health. Go Wildcats!
